If you are eligible to write Ontario's 313A exam and need an accommodation, settle the request before choosing a sitting. Skilled Trades Ontario's (STO) current request form says approval must come before you schedule. This answers a candidate process question researched on 2026-09-26; it does not announce a new rule or promise a particular accommodation.
What should you do before booking?
Start with the official scheduling page and its linked Exam Accommodation Request Form. Submit the completed form and supporting documents to accommodations@skilledtradesontario.ca. The form says requests are confidential, subject to STO review and approval, and that STO may contact you to discuss the request.
Keep three things separate: eligibility to write, approval of an accommodation, and a confirmed exam booking. Having an approved challenge pathway does not itself establish the other two. Write down which step you are waiting on so that a study deadline does not become a booking assumption.
What information does the form ask for?
The form asks for your name, STO client ID and contact details, followed by the accommodation requested, a brief explanation of why it is needed, and supporting documentation. STO says documentation may include a recent, signed assessment or letter from a qualified health professional describing the disability and recommended accommodations. A request missing required documentation cannot be approved.
Before submitting, check that your client ID, email and phone number are correct and that you have included the attachments requested for your case. Keep a copy of the submission for your own records. Send personal documentation to STO through its stated process; Examen Studio does not review requests or decide eligibility.
Are dictionaries and interpreters handled the same way?
No. STO says exams are in English or French and English and French dictionaries are available at exam locations. You may request to bring a foreign-language dictionary; an approved one must provide word-to-word translation only and is inspected before and after the exam. An interpreter or translator requires an accommodation request supported by relevant medical documentation. STO distinguishes disability-related needs from low English/French proficiency alone.
Ask STO about the exact aid you want to use. A technical handbook with definitions, diagrams or worked examples is a different item from a word-to-word dictionary. Do not assume permission for one covers the other.
What if you have already booked or your needs change?
Contact STO about your situation before making another booking. Its scheduling page directs candidates who require accommodation to phone for assistance and gives 647-847-3000 or 1-855-299-0028 toll-free in Ontario. It also asks candidates with urgent medically advised accommodation needs to contact STO before scheduling. Confirm the approved arrangement, location and date with STO; this article cannot determine whether an existing sitting can accommodate your request.
Use the study planner to organize content review while the administrative steps are resolved. Once booked, check the rsexam.ca activation checklist. The exam information page and current-standard guide explain the outline separately from accommodations. The free five-question sample is original, unofficial draft practice; it cannot assess an accommodation need or predict a pass.
