Your 313A exam is booked. What belongs in your bag, and what can enter the exam room? This answers a freshly researched exam-day question using Skilled Trades Ontario's June 2026 guide, checked 2026-09-30. It is a preparation checklist, not an announcement of a new rule. Your own exam confirmation remains the source for your appointment's location, time and delivery format.
What should you check before leaving for the exam?
Open your latest exam confirmation notice and check the location, date, time and any arrival instructions. STO's June 2026 Exam Preparation Guide says the confirmation defines whether the sitting is paper based or electronic. Its exam-day checklist tells candidates to review that notice and bring government-issued photo identification. Put the original ID you intend to use somewhere you can reach it before you travel.
If you have an Authorization to Test Letter, follow its instructions too. STO's current scheduling page says the portal sends an email confirmation after booking. A campus on the public list is not your appointment; the location guide explains how to verify your actual centre.
Which belongings can enter the exam room?
The June 2026 STO guide says cellphones, watches, hats, wallets and smart technology, including smart glasses and headphones, are not permitted in the exam room. Plan how to store those items under the centre's instructions; do not assume you can keep a watch or phone in a pocket. The guide says conduct rules will be shared at the start of the exam. It does not specify a universal locker or storage service, so ask STO or the centre if storage is a concern.
Do not rely on an old account of a paper exam to decide what stationery or calculator you can use. STO's current guide allows paper or electronic delivery as stated in your confirmation. For any item you think you need, use the current notice and ask STO before exam day rather than bringing unapproved material into the room.
Does an online Red Seal sitting change this checklist?
STO says candidates at locations administering online Red Seal exams use rsexam.ca. The exam confirmation tells you whether that applies at your location. Before the date, check that the trade, session, time, duration and status shown in your rsexam.ca account are current; STO asks candidates to contact it promptly if those details are missing or outdated. Its page also says the invigilator provides exam-day instructions and can help launch the exam if an account is locked.
The rsexam.ca setup article covers the advance account check. Your personal password is not required at the sitting according to STO; your government photo ID and booking details still deserve a separate check.
What is worth reviewing the night before?
Use the Ontario 313A exam guide for the format and the current Red Seal standard note for the right study map. Red Seal's trade page, checked 2026-09-30, still marks the previous occupational standard as the basis for current exams while exams for the newer standard are in development. Avoid rebuilding your plan from the newer task weights on the eve of the test.
