If you have a 313A exam date, Red Seal's self-assessment can turn “I need to study everything” into a list of tasks to review. It asks about your experience and understanding; it is not a practice exam or a pass prediction. This is a candidate resource question checked on 2026-10-07, not a new exam rule.
Which refrigeration self-assessment should you open?
Start at Red Seal's Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic trade page, Ontario 313A's Red Seal title. On 2026-10-07 it still marked one occupational standard as the basis for current exams and its newer standard as awaiting new exams. Open the trade's exam-information page for its online or printable self-assessment and current-exam breakdown. The two-standard guide explains why copying task codes from the newer outline can confuse a near-term study plan.
How do you answer a task you have seen but seldom performed?
Red Seal asks you to rate each task and its sub-tasks from little experience, through some experience in limited situations, to full competence in many situations. Read the linked task description before choosing. For example, having watched a commissioning check once is different from independently explaining its measurements, sequence and limits. Mark the gap honestly and write a concrete follow-up, such as “review the start-up checklist with my supervisor.”
The self-assessment report prioritizes sections using your responses and exam weighting. It reports where to focus, not how many questions you will answer correctly. Red Seal says only you see its results and that they cannot accurately predict performance.
What should you do with the result this week?
Pick two unfamiliar tasks with meaningful current-exam weight. For each, read the current occupational standard, find a manufacturer or training source, explain the sequence in your own words, and ask a qualified person to check a field example. Re-rate the task after practice. The study planner can place those specific gaps before your booking date; the 313A exam guide keeps the current and newer breakdowns separate.
Use official sample questions to inspect question style. Our free five-question sample is separate, original and unofficial, with draft questions awaiting certified-mechanic review. Neither short sample validates a self-rating or forecasts a pass.
